I was asked to answer two questions about general revelation. First, in what ways do you see God’s general revelation? Secondly, how do you respond differently than the ancient civilizations that ignored God?
In what ways do I see God’s general revelation in the world around me? To answer that question, I will have to go to Romans 1:19,”For what can be known about God, is plain to them because God has shown it to them”. How has God shown it to them? Look at verse 20 of Romans 1,”For his invisible attributes, namely his Eternal and Divine nature have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world in the things that have been made.” If we would look at little bugs, fish, and humans, we would see how wonderful and powerful God is. Romans 1:20 c says, “So they are without excuse…” We have no excuse not to believe in something apart from God!
This leads us to our next question. Do we respond differently than the civilizations that ignored God? Yes, our response should be very different form theirs! Romans 1 tells us the people’s response,” They did not honor him as God or give thanks to him.” The civilizations that we studied about did not honor God. Romans 1:23 says,” and exchanged the glory of immortal God for images resembling mortal man, and birds, and animals and creeping things.” So what should we do? We need to believe in Jesus Christ!
In closing, let us not be like the ancient people, but let us serve the Lord with our heart, soul, and mind.
